Summary
Five-day window, Friday 10/16 after the morning reflection to Wednesday 10/21, spanning the board meeting, a dense Core42 deployment week and the return from travel. Eleven decisions logged, all reviewed one at a time. Desktop: every investment goes behind one opinionated desktop, with stock upstream GNOME shipped only as a zero-investment bridge for 10.2 and Everfox, and the choice of opinionated desktop left to Product. Core42: nobody at Core42 or G42 gets to say CIQ cannot do Kubernetes - CIQ asks questions, routes Stratum to Bjorn, will not make Iris the first Stratum deployment, and keeps the last line in every shared thread as the Core42 action item while staying out of their internal accountability fights. Bjorn post-training idea goes on the Value Drivers board as a product block with a learn-first research spike. Justin was told now is the cheapest time to break things and to surface every go-faster option, and his org becomes a platform team for more than Linux. The AI card limit stays at 100k as a runaway tripwire while 2027 planning uses 120k per month. With Tim Pepper, getting CIQ onto embargoed security lists became an explicit goal, Stratum engineers give upstream hours where Tim directs, and Tim moves without waiting on Peter. Coverage: two Fathom meetings 429d in the gather and were recovered by hand; no gaps remain.
Wins
VPN access working for the Core42 team, with CIQ visibly the professional party. Koji dev environment and two kernel CVE batches closed; prod Koji first secure-boot kernel imminent. The board meeting landed, and Q3 is tracking to a strong close. Tim Pepper delivered a full open-source plan ahead of the Stratum launch.
Challenges
Core42 internal teams are fighting each other and the project date looks unreachable for reasons outside CIQ control. Kubernetes questions from Core42 arrived without context and nearly pulled senior engineers into testing CozyStack blind. 10.2 FIPS submission is blocked on ARM hardware. Peter is behind after two weeks of travel with more stacking up.
Learnings
Peter separates shipping something from investing in it - a bridge product is acceptable only at near-zero cost with an exit. In a politically divided partner, he controls what CIQ says rather than what the partner does. He runs the biggest new idea of the week through the slowest process precisely so the process proves itself. Breaking changes are cheapest now, and a lead-level veto should not hide options from the people who own the trade-off.
What I Learned About Your Decision-Making
Peter separates the shipping of a product from investment in it, and will accept a bridge only when it costs nothing and has a stated exit.
Team Status
View TPS ReportThe one new red flag since yesterday is 10.2 FIPS submission to atsec, which flipped from In Progress to Blocked while still showing 85% confidence for Oct 30; that confidence is not credible until Nathan names the blocker. Two RLC 10.2 deliverables are due today: RLC Pro LTS 10.2 GA (Justin, 82%, already slipped from Oct 9) and Koji production with the first secure-boot-signed kernel (Nathan, 86%). Elsewhere the movement is mostly date resets: Errata API for Veeam sits in acceptance testing five days overdue, the Jenkins-retirement milestone slipped Oct 16 to Oct 23 while its confidence jumped from 55% to 82%, NVIDIA driver automation was pulled in from Oct 30 to Oct 23 at higher confidence, and Pro H 10.2 compliance moved from On Deck to In Progress at 53%. Chris Wolford's Fuzzball portfolio is unchanged and still carries five items 14 to 33 days overdue (DGX Spark, v4.4 image build, AMD evaluation, multinode NVLink, Warewulf Pro images), none with new dates; Core42 remains on track at 90% for Oct 31.
Tomorrow's Focus
Derived, not stated by Peter: Thursday 8am desktop alignment with Bjorn and Product on one arrow; get Sergei and the Kubernetes team on a call before any CozyStack work; confirm Bjorn has put the post-training block on the Value Drivers board.

Sensitive Decision
Core42 Kubernetes - never let anyone at Core42/G42 say CIQ cannot do Kubernetes; ask questions only, route Stratum to Bjorn
strategy · high
Core42 - the last line in every shared thread is the Core42 action item; project-manage our own work and stay out of their internal accountability fights

Sensitive Decision
Bjorn post-training / sovereign-stack ask goes on the Value Drivers board as a product block; engineering hangs a learn-first research effort off it

Sensitive Decision
Justin - now is the cheapest time to break things; bring every go-faster option to Peter and Bjorn, even the ones you would veto
strategy · medium
AI spend - the 100k card limit stays as a runaway tripwire while Baek plans 120k per month for 2027
operational · low
Justin org becomes the platform team - and for more than Linux; deep Linux knowledge is needed to build the platform, not to run it
strategy · medium
Get CIQ onto the embargoed security lists, Linux first - treat the absence as our failing; give upstream hours from the Stratum engineers to wherever Tim directs, and let Tim move without waiting on Peter
