Put a technical body on the ground in the UAE through Oct 5 rather than run the Core42 deployment fully remote
Situation
The Core42 SOW landed the morning of Sep 15 and hardware arrives Sep 18 with a hard Oct 5 deployment date. The deployment was nominally supposed to be fully remote. Bjorn asked whether CIQ needs a body in the UAE just in case, and offered to go himself if there were safety concerns. Peter said he would be a lot more comfortable with someone there, framed it as belts and suspenders rather than a technical necessity, and made the case on a concrete mechanism: having somebody there who can physically push a button is different from having to do this without being able to push a button. He agreed with Wolford that if CIQ sends anyone it should be a technical person. Wolford named Godlove first pick and Wolfgang second; Peter took the assignment conversations himself and said he would have them that morning, including Arsalan on the support side. Bjorn funded business-class travel and a hotel through Oct 5, and declined Adam Jackson offer to ask the customer to cover flights. Peter also declined Bjorn offer to fly out personally and declined the suggestion of sending two people. At the Leadership Roundtable the day before, when Bjorn asked where they had netted out on sending somebody, Peter answered that they should.
Reasoning
The window is unforgiving - hardware Sep 18, deployed by Oct 5, and this is P1 for the whole org with a first cluster that unlocks an 18,000-node opportunity. Peter is buying insurance against the one failure mode remote access cannot cover: something physical that needs a hand on it. He deliberately did not argue technical aptitude or customer competence, which keeps the request from reading as distrust of Core42 staff, and he did not inflate the ask - one technical person, not two, with the option to fly a specialist in if something goes genuinely wrong. He kept selection inside his own org rather than letting the President resolve it, because the choice turns on who can actually do the work, and he refused to let the customer pay for the trip, which would have converted an internal insurance decision into an obligation.
Additional Context
Adam Jackson, on the ground in the UAE, endorsed having someone there as a cheap insurance policy even if never used. Bjorn raised safety given the regional conflict; Peter distinguished the UAE from Qatar and Saudi, and Adam confirmed the current firing line is elsewhere. An existing todo already tracks confirming with Wolford a week out who takes the Middle East trip.
Observed Evidence
Direct quotes from Peter in two separate Fathom recordings a day apart. In the Sep 15 prep meeting he states the belts-and-suspenders framing and the push-a-button mechanism verbatim, agrees the person must be technical, and commits to having the assignment conversations that morning. In the Sep 14 Leadership Roundtable he answers Bjorn direct question with a plain yes and asks that Wolford be added to the prep meeting so he can understand whether Godlove can do what is needed.

It is, for me, more belts and suspenders. I would be a lot more comfortable if somebody was there. And I just do not know if that somebody is Wolfgang, or if that somebody is somebody from Ryan org. But having somebody there that can push a button physically is different than having to do this without being able to push a button.

Bjorn: And Peter, where did we net out on sending somebody to the EU or to the UAE? Peter: That we should.
